I asked this question yesterday, but my post has vanished (2 actually, it double posted, web site bug?). Anyway, I've now determined that the cause of Messnger crashing with any system that has IE7 on it is the existence of a hosts file other than the generic one (ie: one with no content).
Any ideas on how to keep my host file and run Messenger? Thanks.

Messenger (ver. 7.5 & 8) crash with hosts file
